Here in Utah we take our hiking and outdoor activities very seriously. However, it may not seem that way from some of the unique names you may see on your search for the best places to visit.
Utah is known for some of its interesting names. You may have seen the cities of Nephi or Lehi, cities named after historical figures from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Other city names like Tooele (too-wil-uh), Duchesne (du-shane), and Hurricane (her-ah-kun) leave linguists scratching their heads.
Putting cities aside, the Utah landmarks get even better, and that’s what we will be discussing here. We want to talk about a beautiful hike in Southern Utah, the Mollies Nipple trail in Hurricane, Utah activities, and world-class cuisine.
Pack your bags, bring your appetite, and let’s take a look at some of the unique features you have to check out when you visit Washington Utah.

Mollies nipple is a large rock formation in Hurricane Utah. The beautiful navajo sandstone that makes up this unique feature juts out from the otherwise flat hurricane landscape making it all the more memorable. Although it may look impossible to climb, there are actually a few different ways to the top that only require a bit of scrambling. This was a popular place for native Americans to scout out the landscape for potential dangers, and to send smoke signals for venturing parties.
The origin of the current name Mollies’ Nipple is disputed, but the most common story here is that it was named by a pioneer for his wife Molly. Around the time Mollies Nipple Utah was named, other rocks received similar names around the United States by ranchers and explorers as they expanded their territory.y with a sunset hike in Zion National Park for some of the most breathtaking views you will ever find.
The Mollies Nipple hike is quite short, starting from the base of the formation. The trail is a little over 1.5 miles long, but don’t let the distance fool you. This short hike takes an average of an hour and a half to complete. The beginning of the trail is a steep ascent along a relatively well-marked trail. After about a quarter-mile, the rest of the trail requires more scrambling on all fours. There is a rough trail, but most people opt to move around looking for the easiest way up.
At the top of the trail, you can enjoy unique views of the St George area undisturbed by others because this is a relatively low trafficked area. This is one of our absolute favorite hikes, but it is definitely recommended to leave our kids at home. The ascent and descent both require a fair amount of balance and coordination as well as patience to complete the hike successfully.
If you don’t feel comfortable making it all the way to the top, a lot of people love climbing the first section of the hike to the end of the marked trail. It still provides beautiful views, and it will take you a fraction of the time.
The trailhead for this Hurricane trailhead sits right next to the Hurricane city airport (one of the airports near Zion National Park) and is easily accessible.
You can also find directions on Google maps here.
This is a great hike to enjoy if you’ve got some free time in St George. You can see beautiful landscapes, get away from the crowds, and you can enjoy some exciting hiking to get to the top.
If you are looking for a place to stay while you’re there, check out the Hills of Zion Pueblo House. It sits right at the base of Mollies Nipple and has a private pool to cool off after your hike!
